FALL SERMONS – During the Fall our worship focus is on the nature of the church. Pastor Steve’s sermons focus on Biblical Analogies for the Church.  Last week we considered John 10:1-16 where we learned that the church is like a flock of sheep and Jesus is the Shepherd.  Even though Sheep can be silly and troublesome creatures, the Bible often uses them as an example for God’s people.  We can count on God for provision, protection, and care.  God counts on us to follow the Shepherd’s leading. Jesus won’t let us down. Our challenge is to follow Jesus.

Today we will find that the Church is like a family. Through faith we are adopted into God’s family.  This makes us all “brothers and sisters,” with God as our heavenly parent.  Sometimes a family may be a little dysfunctional.  Our challenge is to function well.  To do this we need to honor our heavenly parent and love our siblings.

THE WORLD MISSION OFFERING will be received throughout the month of October. Our Grace Baptist goal is $2,500.  To date, gifts total $305.  Read the bulletin insert to learn more about the WMO. Offering envelopes are available at the Welcome Center and in chair backs.

THE 2019 STEWARDSHIP PACKETS will be mailed to regular givers in the congregation the week of October 29. If you don’t receive a packet and wish to have one, please contact the church office.

WEEKEND WITH BROTHER MARCUS FROM PRAISE 107 – On Saturday, November 24, 2:00-4:00 P.M., the Youth and Young Adults are invited to hear a special inspirational message just for them. Next, they will participate in two activities, one serving and one application.  On Sunday, November 25, the congregation will have the opportunity to hear an inspirational sermon by Brother Marcus.  Everyone is invited!

THE MIDWEEK BIBLE STUDY meets on Wednesdays at 11:00 A.M. in Room B. The purpose of our Bible Study is to dig deeper into the Scriptures, strengthen each other’s faith, and build our bonds of Christian fellowship. On October 24 we will consider God’s word for the church in Laodicea in Romans 3:14-22.  This will conclude our study of the Seven Churches of Revelation.  On October 31 we will study “Saints and Sinners” for All Hallows Eve.  You are welcome to bring a bag lunch and fellowship together following the study. All are welcome!

AMERICAN BAPTIST WOMEN’S MINISTRIES holds its Fall Gathering at Bethlehem Baptist on Saturday, November 10, 8:00am-2:00pm. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.  Cost is $25 (age 19 and up) and $10 for girls ages 5-18.  The day’s theme is “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism.  All registration fees must be paid in advance and no walk-ins. IT WILL SOON BE TIME to send out Care Packages to our Grace Baptist college students.  Please bring in your donations of candy, ramen noodles, easy mac, and other treats college students might like and place on the marked table in the narthex before Saturday, November 10.  Buy an extra bag of Halloween candy or bring your leftovers!  Large shoe boxes are also needed to pack up the treats.  The Youth and Young Adults will put together the boxes on November 10 and include a note to each student.  Thanks for your help with this project!

TRISH SIMPSON will be on vacation October 25-November 4. Many thanks to Betty Helpa who will help with office responsibilities while Trish is away.

Once again, the Board of Missions is sponsoring Operation Christmas Child here at Grace Baptist. Last year we packed 58 shoeboxes for underprivileged children around the world who would not normally receive a Christmas gift.  We would love to pack even more boxes this year!

Please support our project by taking a shoebox from the table in the narthex, along with a brochure that explains how to pack it. A donation of $9 per box is necessary to cover shipping costs.  Please put your name on the sign-up sheet when you take the box(es).  When you return the filled box(es), please indicate on the sheet how you have paid the $9 shipping donation (on-line or check).  All checks should be made out to “Grace Baptist Church” and placed inside the shoebox.

Do not tape the box; if necessary it can be secured with a rubber band. The deadline for returning boxes is November 11If you are unable to pack a shoebox but would like to be part of the program, you can contribute towards the shipping expenses.
