From the Pastor – I Shouldn’t Be Here

I shouldn’t be here.

It’s not that I don’t feel qualified or willing to be your pastor. God has allowed me a number of ministry and pastoral experiences since 1976 when I was a youth minister at First Baptist in Coatesville.

It’s not that I don’t think I will like you. I enjoyed my time with you as interim in 2005-06. I appreciated your heart for ministry and even grew to like and love you. It’s not that I think I should be doing something else. I believe that God called me to be your pastor during this time of transition. I shouldn’t be here because life’s circumstances should be different. It’s not fair that Pastor George is going through such a difficult time. It’s not fair that illness keeps him from ministering with you. He should still be your pastor. His presence is profoundly missed. I don’t understand the ways of the Lord. But I’m not called to fully understand. I’m called to continually seek God in the midst of life’s circumstances.

The Prophet Isaiah put it this way in chapter 55: 6 Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; 7 let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts; let them return to the LORD, that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

My “calling upon the Lord” has led me to you at this time. I trust that the Lord will bless this time of transition. Pray for me as I seek to minister with you. I am praying for you.
